6th grade memories...

When I was in 6th grade our group went to a camp in Julian, California.
tbh I don't remember much but I do remember that on the first day there we went for a hike.
I took a disposable camera because they didn't allowed digital cameras which in that time they weren't that big of a deal yet, at least not for a sixth grader... Anyway I just found these digital versions of the pictures that I decided to develop.

This picture is from the way back home.

The sad part of the story is that I got a lil' wet when we were near the lake and we weren't that close to the camp. When we got there we all took a shower, but we only had like 4 minutes each to shower because for some reason those were the rules at camp, no long showers and changing as fast as you could wherever you could... anyway, I'm not exactly sure why it happened or if any of those incidents were the cause but the next morning I had fever... I spent the whole day with the nurse until my parents were able to pick me up because Tylenol did not help me at all.

Even though I was there for about 2 days (1 of them inside an isolated room) while my friends spent like 3 or 4, actually doing camp activities, I was glad I had to experience that place and was able to take a few pictures. It was also very cute that my best friend at the moment had gone to visit me and left a note saying she hoped I'd get better (I was sleeping and didn't see her), it let me know she cared.

Appreciation Post

So I went to Yosemite National Park, for the second time in my life, and holy crap it's beautiful!  I decided to dedicate this post to nature because it just amazes me how some people think they're the greatest shits in the world but in reality, they're absolutely nothing in this world. Once you take away all materialistic belongings you realize you have and are nothing. So enjoy your life now, not for how much money you have but for what you get to see in this moment, because one day your soul will be gone and God knows where you will end up at. (either your soul or body)

Confidence 101

I am not the best to talk about this. I cannot say I am not an insecure person, but I can say that I accept myself. Being happy with one self is difficult, we somehow let other people influence our ideas and so they change often and we want to change ourselves. First, explore yourself and recognize good and bad things about you. Now, this is not what other people think is good and bad about you, it's what YOU think and what YOU know brings problems in your life. Work on the things you don't like so you're happy about yourself and if you can't change it easily, LEARN to accept it. Understand you can't please everyone, there will always be someone talking and you can't prevent that. I do have some "rules" that I try to follow:

1) Do what makes YOU happy
This of course, as long as it's not offensive to other people and you are not harming them.

2) Don't take anything personal.
When you know your virtues and vices what other people think about you is irrelevant. Also, remember beauty is abstract so there is people who think you are gorgeous, beautiful, alright or even ugly but in the end it just a matter of opinions that are all different from each other.

3)Don't make guesses of what other people think
This is something hard for me. I'm always wondering what other people might say or what they're thinking but then I try to control my thoughts by remembering rules one and two, Does it make me happy? probably yes otherwise I wouldn't do it, and does it really matter what they think? most likely no.

4) Do everything with passion
This is just to make everything worth whatever comments it receives. Like we say in marketing "there's no bad publicity"

There really isn't much to confidence, but it really is hard to obtain it. It's important to know confidence starts with the hardest judge of all, YOURSELF. Like I mentioned before is just a matter of accepting who you are and knowing (and not caring) that other people have to deal with the way you are. Also if it's something you know you can change, then DO IT! but do it for yourself not to please other people who might not even be important in your life in a matter of time. Make peace and be good with yourself and everyone else won't matter.

Congrats Mexicali!

On Saturday March 7th we celebrated Mexicali's 112th year as a city. The event was full of cumbia and people ready to dance with our local cumbia bands.

First: LatinoZon (almost an all girl band)

Then; La Sucursal de la Cumbia

Finally: Selena Vive, a tribute to the queen Selena!

Seeing all those people from all ages dancing and enjoying themselves made me wonder if other countries celebrate like us Mexicans do, dancing!! I hope they do, because there isn't anything better than to relax the body and let it all go to the rhythm of some good music.

Galentine/Valentine

Idk about you guys but this year I felt the love like no other time.
Nothing change about my love life, I'm still single, but I saw a lot of people sharing their love with someone and that felt good.

I stopped celebrating Valentine's Day when it wasn't so acceptable for "kids" to take those little cards and give it to everyone in their classroom and it converted to a day you only celebrate if you have a lover. One of my friend's has done little get-togethers to spend it all as friends, but for some reason I had not been able to go. This year tho, I did go and I spent Friday the 13th, (spooky...not really) with my friends. We had pizza and lots of fun talk. After that little kickback some of us went to another friend's valentines party. Something I like is that in Mexico it's not just Valentines day, it's dia del amor y la amistad (love and friendship), which leaves it more open to celebrating with friends.

On the 14th I saw a video that National Geographic shared about what kissing can transmit to other people. This really put me in a good mood and it made me realize how powerful it can be. This is an act of love that shouldn't be taken so simple. I mean, you're literally mixing your saliva with someone else's without even caring. Everyone remembers their experience with their first kiss, it's not an easy thing to forget. Some people might not remember their first kiss EVER but they do remember their first kiss with a significant other that changed their life completely, and to them, that's the only kiss that really matters.

Spread the love, but not only one day of the year. Kiss, hug, or just tell someone their importance of them in your life. ALSO remember someone out there loves you ;)

Mimimalism

The way of living vs. the fashion sense

Ok, so I watched a video by youtuber Jenn Im on her channel Clothesencounters called minimalist lookbook and I thought, what does that really mean? because I wasn't completely sure I was understanding this concept in a fashion way. So I looked a little bit more into it and found people's stories that allowed me to understand it better.

A minimalist in general is a person who decides to live with only a minimum amount of belongings that they believe it's necessary or good for their survival. They limit their closet to only specific clothing for the weather throughout the year, "beauty" products are limited to basics for hygiene, and overall their rooms/houses have things that can serve more than one purpose. Those are some examples that don't necessarily apply to every single person because we all have very different needs or consider some things to be more important than others. This concept is pretty cool since it allows you to live life fully. Instead of focusing on materialistic ideas, you can redirect your attention to spiritual thoughts or focus on nature or your family. There's nothing better than spending time with the ones you love (says the girl locked in her room while her parents are downstairs, but I mean I did have to finish this post...) anyway here are some examples of minimalists homes.

A fashion minimalist is a person who in their closet only contains basic pieces with no patterns or clothing that aren't just fashion trends. It can also be a one time thing (less is more) where you don't layer clothing and use simple fabric for one day. The Minimalist Lookbook gives good advice on how to do effortless looks and still look gorgeous (props to Jenn Im). The last two images are from brand Everlane. Keep in mind a fashion minimalist doesn't have to necessarily live in an environment completely minimalist even though it usually goes hand on hand.

If you think you want to try minimalism it doesn't have to be so intense since the beginning. You can start by removing clutter that doesn't really bring any purpose to your life. Don't hold on to things you don't enjoy or that have no meaning to you, thinking you might need it in the future when you haven't used it in the past 2 years. Even if you don't really want to be a minimalist, getting rid of old things you don't use can allow new things (not only materialistic but also experiences) to come into your life. You might have something in your room that is not allowing you to move forward in life, so just get rid of it. You can donate it to someone you know will enjoy or need it more than you.

Going back to my university

ALERT: lamest post ever

So here are a few sentences of my thoughts about school each day

Monday: For some reason it felt like the very first day in uni but this time I saw familiar faces.
Tuesday: Today was harder to wake up and I had a class at noon, but hey it wasn't so bad.
Wednesday: Apparently I'm taking some sort of art class which is ok but I'm poor and buying materials for it souds painful
Thursday: I'm too tired to even think and I'm forgetting my maths!! I need to study again what I learned in high school...moral of the day: save your work!!!
Friday: My classes were chill and TGIF!!! That's all I got to say

This first week back to school was pretty hectic actually but hopefully I'll be able to manage my time and work and have better posts for you guys.

Farewell; what friendship's all about

On Friday some of my friends and I went out to eat in spirit of two of our friends, which are leaving to study abroad. Their very best friends brought some decorations that I thought were super cute and it went well with the personalities of our friends that are leaving.

They're pretty simple but it still feels like a lot. It doesn't matter how much you spend in money as long as you do it with love. We were genuinely happy for both of them and even though some of us aren't very expressive with our feelings towards each other we can really feel that we matter through the things we do for each other.

So I dedicate this post to my friends and to the memories they're about to make.

Know the author:

So here's the deal,
I am a mexican-somewhat american girl.
I was born and raised (for 11 years) in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico and brought (by y parents) to the boring El Centro, California where I have been living the past 8 years. Music is a passion of mine, there is nothing more uplifting than listening to your favorite bands when you're not in the mood for the world. My "favorite" genre is pretty much anything to do with rock, let it be pop rock, punk rock, rock and roll, classic rock, indie rock... etc.
don't let this fool you into thinking I will not jam to the most pop overplayed song in the radio...
but I'm into a lot more stuff
I'm very open minded on a lot of things, except misogyny, racism, and injustice.

I have decided to start this blog to kill time, mostly, but also as a way of expressing myself. I'll add some fashion, friends, and fun to this blog, hopefully. I'll stay as true to myself as I can and I'll try to make the best of this! I hope you enjoy!
